BONT® High Temperature and High Pressure Ball Valves (world patented) incorporate a new worldwide patented and unique concept for the body seats. After being given a goal to develop a ball valve capable of eliminating all the problems associated with metal-to-metal seated ball valves in high temperature and high pressure applications, our R & D department met this extreme challenge by developing new body seal material that exceeded all expectations. For HT and HP applications today, ball valve manufacturers supply hardened metallic seats. Unfortunately, these hardened metallic seats do not provide tight shut off, and are burdened with many disadvantages including: very high cost and very high operating torque. Metallic seats are also subject to unavoidable loss of seat tightness due to scratches on the ball surface created by any heavy particle carryover in the fluid being handled. High pressure drops can also lead to erosion and cavitation of the ball. All these problems are further compounded by the difficulties typically encountered during maintenance due to the inability to perfectly match the surfaces of the ball with available spare seat parts in order to attempt to re-establish tight shut off.

BONT® High Temperature and High Pressure Ball Valves (BONT® HTB) incorporate a "semi-soft" seat design made of metal/graphite compounds. This tried and well proven design offer several advantages over metal-to-metal seats:

  • Perfect seat tightness under working conditions
  • Long seat life
  • Continuos cleaning of the ball surface due to the wiping action of the seat material
  • Low operating torque even when compared to valves with PTFE seats
  • Suitable for use in any application where pure graphite is permitted. The metal portion of the seat can be changed to accommodate any application requirements
  • Long life maintenance free for a minimum of 30,000 cycles
  • Low cost
  • Full bore, three piece design body design

The original goal to design a superior ball valve has only been reached after more than five years of research, development and testing under the most severe conditions. Our experience with this seat material, also used in our well known BONT® Boiler Blow-Down and Blow off ball valves, has been amply proven. Extensive testing has confirmed and verified its ability to withstand the most difficult service conditions.

The use of a similar material in our easily adjustable stem packing (the same as for our Piston Valves and HP globe valves), guarantees proper tightness and no stem leakage making it a perfect complement to our BONT® HP/HT Ball valves for severe service applications.

The valve is produced according ASME B16-34, B16-5, B16-11, B16-25, MSS SP 72, BS 5351, DIN 3239 Standards.
